Program Note

And They Heralded the End is a tone poem structured around the concept of viaticum - a part of the last rites administered to the dying. The piece explores premonition and acceptance of death as well as reflection on life. One theme is developed through multiple sections to explore its qualities - not as variations, but as precedents.
